Prayer Watch

Our Prayer Focus

Prayer forms the backbone of everything we do. Toward that end, we have mobilized an arm of the GLGA specifically focused on mobilizing local laypeople in prayer. We call it the Greater Lafayette Prayer Watch or GLPW.

What Is the GLPW?

It is about networking Christians throughout the Greater Lafayette area to intercede for the spiritual welfare of our churches and community.

It is designed to be a rallying point for fervent prayer, an encouragement to those committed to persevere in prayer, and a source of relevant information for those who desire to pray strategically and effectively.

It is motivated by a desire to see the manifest presence of God fill our churches and city and for the Kingdom of Christ to become the focus of attention in our community.

It is accountable to and given guidance by local pastors and ministry leaders who have a unique understanding of the spiritual needs and issues of our community that the church needs to address.

Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving; praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word…

~ Colossians 4:2-3

The History

The history of the church illustrates the truth of an old saying, “When God intends great mercy for His people, He first sets them to praying”. This being true, then surely God is preparing our community for a great spiritual blessing! For years now God has been moving in the hearts of many believers, from different denominations, to unite them in a prayer for revival in our churches and spiritual awakening throughout our area. This God-given heart for prayer has found expression through the City and Campus Concerts of Prayer, National Day of Prayer observances, locally organized prayer walks, Pastors’ Prayer Breakfasts and Prayer Retreats, along with numerous other local church prayer initiatives. The Greater Lafayette Prayer Watch is yet another means to unite the church in this God-given initiative to pray.

And it is not only happening here! Today, in places throughout our nation and the world, wherever the Holy Spirit is moving believers to unite in fervent, concerted prayer, increasing numbers of people are turning to Christ, and whole communities are experiencing the transforming power of the Kingdom of God.

Our city and campus can be one of them. Our hope for revival is in God. Our expectation for revival is helped by hearing what He is doing in other communities. Our anticipation of a revival comes from how He is already working in our city. Our experience of revival will ultimately come by the gracious and sovereign hand of God. But through our obedience to Him now, we are helping prepare the way for the outpouring of His Spirit. It’s true, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” (Revelation 2:29)
